This “ACTIVE" DisplayPort to HDMI adapter is an adapter that contains an electronic converter chip that actively converts the DisplayPort signal into HDMI.

This differs from a passive DP → HDMI adapter, which simply relies on the computer’s DisplayPort output supporting DP++ (Dual-Mode DisplayPort). The active adapter performs the conversion itself.

It is used when connecting monitors through a DisplayPort via hub/docking solution for example.
